“And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God?  That they are not to be violated but with his wrath?  Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep for ever.”

WED, AUG 20 -- Connie, a sidewalk counselor, reported that another woman decided against abortion (# 48) last Friday at Planned Parenthood.

THU, AUG 14 -- Eleanor spoke to a woman on Tuesday who was headed to Planned Parenthood. But the woman changed her mind and never went in -- baby saved (# 47)! She later admitted that she knew abortion was wrong. In her talk with Eleanor, she said that Eleanor's presence and words strongly confirmed what she knew, but wasn't fully admitting. She left adamant about not having her abortion.

Leif Nilsson was arraigned Wednesday. Next date: pre-trial conference on September 23, Brighton Court. It came to light that Leif has a second buffer zone charge against him -- for an alleged buffer zone violation on May 10. Unusual that nothing was brought against him regarding that in the interim.

Pro-lifer Leif Nilsson was issued a summons to appear in Brighton Court Wednesday, August 13 to be arraigned on a charge of violating the buffer zone law on July 19 outside of Planned Parenthood. This is the first criminal case involving the buffer zone.

SUN, AUG 10 -- The three pro-life advocates protesting forced abortions in China at the start of the Summer Olympics have been deported back to the United States.

Why I Can't Watch the Olympic Games: Forced Abortions, Abuses in China by Steve Mosher -- Had the National Population and Family Planning Commission not rescinded its invitation, I would be in China right now as the Olympics opened. But the Commission, which is responsible for enforcing the one-child policy, belatedly realized that I was a well-known critic of that policy--and of that country's human rights record in general-- and barred the door. I confess to not having been overly disappointed by their decision. Despite the fact that I read, write and speak Chinese, it would have been nearly impossible for me to do anything else in Beijing but the one thing that I will not do: attend the Games. For reasons that I will explain below, I have decided to boycott them from start to finish. It is true that I would have welcomed the opportunity to visit my friends in Beijing, but I wouldn't have felt free to do this for fear of getting them in trouble. China's capital, you see, has been turned into an armed camp. Plainclothes policemen are everywhere and, even if I managed to avoid human spies, the more than 30,000 surveillance cameras that have been have been installed throughout the city in recent months would have tracked my movements anyway. For some time now, I haven't even dared to communicate with my friends by e-mail or phone, because I knew that all communications into or out of China are being monitored. Full story at LifeNews.com

FRI, AUG 1 -- A woman came out of Planned Parenthood Tuesday of this week -- she agreed to forgo the abortion (# 46) and accompany pro-life counselor Eleanor to A Woman's Concern.

Two pro-life counselors, Jane and Teresa, were assaulted outside of Planned Parenthood this morning by a young woman accompanying another woman who apparently had scheduled an abortion. Teresa had her sign vandalized and Jane was grabbed in the face. Boston Police were called. In contrast to their rapid-response mode when Planned Parenthood calls -- for such urgent matters as a couple of pro-lifers walking down the alley adjacent to the building -- the BPD moved in slow motion. A female officer who eventually did show up commented to another officer, "This is a lot of nonsense."

Monthly pro-life Mass, offered by a Franciscan (F.P.O.) priest, is scheduled for 7:00 AM Saturday (and every First Saturday) at St. Patrick's parish, Rte. 28, Lawrence.

Abortionists Marcus Gordon and Sarah Betstadt will be picketed outside of their Branch Street abortion mill in Methuen on Saturday, from 9:00-11:00 AM.

MON, JUL 28 -- Late report: two children (# 44 & 45) were spared from abortion at Planned Parenthood, according to one of the sidewalk counselors who talked with the women.

Operation Rescue's Truth Truck, driven by Mark Gietzen, caused a stir the St. Louis Planned Parenthood abortion center last week when he drove onto their parking lot and parked near the front door as abortion-bound women entered the facility. Full article on LifeNews.com

TUE, APR 22 -- Earth Day meditation: "As I demonstrate in The Really Inconvenient Truths, by any standard typically used by environmentalists, the pill is a pollutant. It does the same thing, just worse, as other chemicals they call pollution.
"But liberals have gone to extraordinary lengths in order to stop consideration of contraceptive estrogen as a pollutant." -- Iain Murray, National Review

Demographic Winter draws upon experts from all around the world - demographers, economists, sociologists, psychologists, civic and religious leaders, parliamentarians and diplomats.  Together, they reveal the dangers facing society and the world’s economies, dangers far more imminent than global warming and at least as severe.  These experts will discuss how:

-- The “population bomb” not only did not have the predicted consequences, but almost all of the developed countries of the world are now experiencing fertility rates far below replacement levels.  Birthrates have fallen so low that even immigration cannot replace declining populations, and this migration is sapping strength from developing countries, the fertility rates for many of which are now falling at a faster pace than did those of the developed countries.

-- The economies of the world will continue to contract as the “human capital” spoken of by Nobel Prize winning economist Gary Becker, diminishes.   The engines of commerce will be strained as the workers of today fail to replace themselves and are burdened by the responsibility to support an aging population.

FRI, APR 18 -- Our apologies for this belated post; but at least we have some good news to report. On Saturday, April 12, a woman came out of Planned Parenthood and spoke with Judy, a sidewalk counselor, and stated that she decided against her abortion (# 22). Another woman came out Wednesday (#23), and arranged for an ultrasound test at A Woman's Concern. And yesterday, Thursday, a couple came out and decided they will keep the baby (# 24). She is three months pregnant, has her own doctor, and said she didn't need help.

Why are things the way they are in the archdiocese? One must be careful not to over-generalize, but we still believe there is a lot of insight  in Professor James Hitchcock's article, "Conservative Bishops, Liberal Results"
